I was selected as one of ten graduate students university wide to receive a $1000 fellowship to develop and subsequently implement a proposal for a Teaching as Research (TAR) Project. For my TAR project I developed a partially flipped model for a college trigonometry course at the University of Iowa in the Spring of 2017. Having implemented the project a semester before I was awarded the fellowship, funds will be used for conference travel to present the results of the project. Completing this TAR project proposal and then presenting on my findings allowed to me advance through all of CIRTLs learning outcomes. Please see my CIRTL page for more information.

I was selected as 1 of 31 receipients campus wide for the 2017 Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant (OGTA) Award through the office of Teaching Excellence. The University of Iowa has approximately 1400 graduate teaching assistants.
OGTA Award recipients must first be nominated by a faculty member for their teaching excellence. Two letters of recommendation are required for the award, in addition to a statement of teaching philosophy from the nominee, and three to five letters of recommendation from former students. |
I was selected as one of four graduate students university wide to receive a 2016-2017 Graduate Teaching Fellowship through the Center for Teaching at the University of Iowa. As their STEM fellow I partially flipped my trigonometry course in the Spring of 2017 as my Capstone Project and I did a workshop on Universal Design for Learning for Graduate College via the Center for Teaching. I also assisted with TA training in the beginning of the Fall 2017 semester by facilitating a troubleshooting session on how to deal with difficult situations in the classroom for new TAs.
